Local Actions for Sustainable Energy Development, Lamia, Greece

The Regional Union of Municipalities of Central Greece is organising an event for sensitizing citizens as well as local authorities on climate change and energy sustainability.

In this effort, the Union has requested the support of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES)which is the National Coordinator of the Covenant of Mayors, in order to present:

· the opportunities for municipalities through their participation in the Covenant of Mayors

· the benefits for local economy through applying renewable energy sources and saving and how all society actors may be involved

· the procedure of developing and materializing municipal Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs).

The workshop will take place on Wednesday 27 June 2012in the city of Lamia, capital of the Region, with the participation of municipal authorities and citizens of the 25 municipalities of Central Greece and aims at enlarging and strengthening participation in the Covenant of Mayors initiative and at mobilizing local societies in the direction of sustainable energy development.

This event is supported by the Energy for Mayors Project of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme.
